A digital business card is useful when it connects identity, contact information, traceability and a next action. The real asset is not the QR code; it is the system that turns a physical encounter into a recoverable digital relationship.
- Networking loses value when contact data remains scattered and without context.
- A digital asset should lead to a useful next step: save a contact, visit a page, book a call or continue a conversation.
- Consistency between person, brand and digital experience strengthens trust.
- Events can feed CRM, content and search strategy when they are documented intentionally.
What I observed at Money Expo
I was interested in what happened after the handshake, the pitch and the photo. In finance and crypto, relationships and trust are central, so losing contact after the event wastes part of the investment made in attending.
That made me look more closely at digital cards and the role they can play in professional follow-up.
The issue is continuity, not paper versus digital
I am not arguing that printed cards are useless. A physical object can be memorable. The problem appears when the relationship ends with an object that is not connected to the commercial system.
A digital layer can lead to WhatsApp, a portfolio, a calendar, a CRM or a specific landing page.
The card as an ecosystem node
In a well-designed ecosystem, every touchpoint has a function. A digital card can identify, present, route and record.
With campaign parameters or dedicated URLs, the company can also learn which events generate meaningful conversations instead of only visits.
Networking can become content
Events produce excellent questions. What does the market worry about? Which terms does it use? What objections repeat?
Those observations can later become articles, service pages, videos and answer-oriented content.
What I would implement today
Before an event I would prepare a focused landing page, a contact asset, a concise proposition, a way to segment leads and a follow-up protocol for the next 48 hours.
Networking does not end when you collect a contact. That is where the next part begins.
Frequently asked questions
Does a digital business card improve networking by itself?
No. It reduces friction, but the message and follow-up process still determine the value.
Should it connect to a CRM?
When the volume justifies it, yes. Even a well-organized spreadsheet is better than contacts with no context.
Can an industry event help SEO?
Indirectly, yes. Questions and language collected from real conversations can improve useful content and information architecture.
Does your brand need to evolve without losing what it has already built?
I review positioning, web architecture, digital property, content and SEO/GEO/AEO opportunities to decide what should be preserved, corrected or rebuilt.

At the Puebla Transport & Logistics Suppliers Expo I interviewed 13 companies. Years later, what interests me most is not repeating every answer, but identifying B2B positioning patterns that other businesses can study.
