You do not prepare a website for AI Overviews with a secret schema or a prompt trick. You prepare it by making the site easy to crawl, easy to understand, specific enough to be useful and strong enough to deserve trust.
- Indexability and technical health come before AI-search tactics.
- Pages need specific claims, context and evidence rather than vague marketing copy.
- Direct answers should coexist with depth, examples and next steps.
- AI visibility is a consequence of a strong information system, not a standalone deliverable.
Start with eligibility, not hype
When a new search interface appears, the market quickly fills with lists of supposed hacks. I prefer to begin with a more durable question: can Google reliably access and understand the page in the first place?
Robots directives, canonical URLs, server responses, internal links, mobile rendering and page speed are not glamorous, but they determine whether the rest of the work has a chance to matter.
Make the company legible
A search system should not have to infer basic facts from decorative copy. Who is the company? What does it sell? Who is it for? Where does it operate? What experience can it demonstrate? Which pages provide proof?
This is why I care about entity clarity and content architecture. A good website repeatedly establishes relationships between the brand, its offers, its expertise and its cases.
Write answers a person can use
Strong answer-oriented content resolves uncertainty. If the page discusses an audit, explain what is reviewed. If it describes a service, state what is included and what is not. If there are limitations, publish them.
Specificity is commercially useful because it attracts people who actually understand the offer. It is also editorially useful because it gives retrieval systems concrete information to work with.
Use structured data as support, not disguise
Structured data can help describe authorship, articles, organizations, FAQs and other elements. It should reflect visible content instead of manufacturing claims that do not exist on the page.
I treat schema as a translation layer between the page and machines, not as a replacement for the page.
Measure business outcomes
AI-assisted search may change click behavior, which makes simplistic traffic targets less useful. I would watch qualified inquiries, branded searches, assisted conversions, pages that support sales conversations and the questions prospects bring after discovering the brand.
The goal is not to win a screenshot inside an AI interface. The goal is to build discoverability that contributes to demand and trust.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need special markup for AI Overviews?
There is no single markup that guarantees inclusion. Use valid structured data where appropriate and focus on accessible, useful content.
Should I block AI crawlers?
That is a business and policy decision. Review the current documentation and decide based on how you want your content accessed; do not assume every crawler behaves the same way.
Is an FAQ page enough for AEO?
No. Important answers should exist throughout the architecture: service pages, cases, articles and supporting resources.
Does your brand need to evolve without losing what it has already built?
I review positioning, web architecture, digital property, content and SEO/GEO/AEO opportunities to decide what should be preserved, corrected or rebuilt.
